My
name is Patrick Sexton and I wrote these articles because in my
experience most of the concerns or problems that new webmasters have
with their ranking all seem to come back to the Google guidelines. I decided to write this site as a resource for those willing to look.
Since so many people are asking the same questions I figured I might as
well write it all out to give people a place to learn about the basics
of the guidelines and also to give me something to point people to as I
am speaking about to guidelines in forums. There just didn't seem to be much clear info about the Google
guidelines out there on the net that isn't from a SEO or promotional
slant. If someone is looking for good info about the guidelines, they
often end up an pages designed to sell them something that often
distribute myths and bad ideas.
It is important to utilize what Google has provided to webmasters and the place to start is Google webmaster Central.
Other Articles I have written that may be useful (or funny) to new webmasters:
How to Market a Website if you only have 100 Dollars - This is a popular article where I asked the top names in the internet marketing world what they would do if they only had 100 dollars to market a website. Their answers are extraordinarily useful, and I was surprised and impressed with the detail they gave.

My Thank Yous to some great people...
I want to thank Aaron Wall of SEObook.com for his enormous contributions and sharing good solid information about SEO for free. You can also purchase his collected wisdom on SEO in his SEObook. He has a great set of SEO tools, in fact the source code for the spider simulator that I have on this site was provided free of charge from his tools page. In addition to providing alot of good info, he also seems a very nice guy.
I also want to thank Stu Nicholls for his website CSSplay.co.uk where my menu, shadow boxes and the neat CSS buttons come from (without using any images!). By providing info about CSS tricks and techniques instead of hoarding it he lets people like me have fun with CSS and makes the internet a bit quicker place to be.
A big thank you to Matt Cutts from Google (the defacto blog to read for those interested in Google and SEO), and while his posts are pretty much always informative, one post in particular inspired me create this website, and I think it is one of the most important advice that any webmaster should read and then read again. The post is ....SEO Advice: Writing useful articles that readers will love.
I recommend visiting SEOmoz.org and reading their blog if you are interested in the world of website promotion. They have a very nice community of people there and are friendly to newer users. They offer some of the most straight forward and comprehensive articles out there on the subject of SEO.
Thanks,
Patrick Sexton
